Why we made this

The Chromag Rift Knee Pad is built for the demands of modern enduro and gravity riding, delivering aggressive, uncompromising protection without restricting your mobility on the bike. We wanted to strike the perfect balance between heavy-duty coverage and pedal-friendly comfort, resulting in a pad you can trust on the gnarliest descents but still wear efficiently to the top of the next stage.

At its core is CE Level 2 certified RHEON™ technology, an energy-absorbing polymer that remains soft and flexible as you pedal, but stiffens dynamically upon impact to absorb high-energy forces. Because enduro riding exposes you to more than just direct knee impacts, we integrated low-profile lateral and upper shin padding to provide comprehensive peripheral protection against frame strikes and trail debris.

To ensure the pad survives season after season, we reinforced the high-impact zones with a highly durable, abrasion-resistant fabric. The chassis itself utilizes perforated Aeroprene to keep the coverage lightweight and breathable. We completely dialed in the fit with a pre-curved, slip-on design that features a supportive calf gusset and a tall elastic top cuff with a silicone print to lock the pad securely in place. Finally, a POLYGIENE® StayFresh treatment ensures they resist odor ride after ride.

Rift FAQ's

Yup. Both the RHEON insert and garment itself are fine to throw in the washing machine.

Best to machine wash cold, and avoid the dryer completely.

Due to the nature of the materials, they dry pretty quickly when hung to dry.

The Rift has been rigorously tested to not only pass, but exceed CE certifications, not to mention additional testing by RHEON labs.

The Rift exceeds EN 1621-1:2012 Level 2 impact certification.

Yes actually! We've found folding over the stretchy top band, so that the grip strips face out really helps getting the pads off. It even prolongs the life of the pads, as you don't have to wrestle with them to get them off.

While they both exceed EN 1621-1:2012 Level 2 impact certification, the Rift offers more comprehensive protection and security over the Shift.

If your priority is protection, go for the Rift. If your priority is pedalling, go for the Shift.

Put another way, the Shift is aimed at "trail", the Rift is aimed at "enduro".

The orignal Rift first hit shelves in 2019 and took the market by storm.

However, a lot has happened since then and partnering with RHEON has given us access to new materials which have paved the way to make a pad that passes EN 1621-1:2012 Level 2 impact certification, but still remains flexible enough to want to pedal in.

The orignal Rift was almost perfect, but in the update we have addressed feedback relating to the silicone band, comfort and security.
